This is a collection of policy types that can replace the income of the insured person or pay a lump sum to help replace income following an insured event.

Examples

Critical Illness policy, a policy that will pay the insured a lump sum upon diagnosis of a listed critical illness eg Heart Attack. Different insurers have a different list of conditions under which they will pay and different definitions of the conditions.

Unemployment Cover, a policy that will pay a monthly amount for a pre determined time in the event that the insured person is made unemployed.

Accident Sickness, a policy often sold with unemployment cover, which pays in the event that the insured person con not do thier job either through accident or sickness. This is often sold as Mortgage Protection (with unemployment cover) to protect the ability to pay a mortgage or loan. However it can also be sold to Tennants to protect the ability to pay rentals.

Income Protection, a policy that will pay the insured person a proportion of thier working income on a monthly basis either upto retirement or a pre determin period. this pays in the event tht the insured is not a able to carry out thier job due to long term illness or accident

Essential Abilities Policy, a policy that will pay the insured for a pre determined period a monthly amount in the event that he/she can not perform a number of tasks from a list. eg Walking, climbing stairs or lifting (unaided). please note that different providers have different lists of tasks.
